Punch support : Punch Training

Train for a career in running your own pub business...

We at Punch are passionate about our pubs and we want to attract the best Partners we can to successfully run pubs as their own business with our teams in support. The Ready for Business programme is designed to deliver that support and give you, alongside your own hard work, every possible chance of success.

The training and support has three critical phases

Through this Ready for Business programme we believe you will gain the necessary understanding, knowledge and skills to build a foundation for success in your pub. Punch Partners who have attended this course have discovered things in a few days that might otherwise have taken them months to discover!

One - Foundation Week Training (before you enter your pub)

This one week workshop will ensure you have covered the essentials of running a successful pub business before taking on your new pub and covers in detail the following areas:-
  • Retail Standards and Offer
  • Marketing
  • Finance

Two - Your First Six Months

Our extensive experience in pubs has shown us that this early period within a new business is the most critical to long term success.

This is where we focus our support on practical help, building on the three elements covered during your Foundation Week Training.

  • Cellar Training Visit: You will receive a visit in your first two weeks from a Cellar Services expert to help you get the best out of your cellar and optimise your beer quality.
  • Development Planning Visit: By your sixth week the trainer from your Foundation workshop will visit you in your pub to help you formulate an action plan specific to you and your pub.
  • This action plan forms a platform for the following meetings you have with your BRM. Each visit will concentrate on one of the three key elements with a view to helping you ensure that your pub is the very best it can be.

Three - Ongoing Support

Every successful business must strive for improvement. As one of the largest pub groups in the UK we offer unrivalled access to support and training covering every aspect of running pubs successfully. Your BRM will discuss all of your training needs and opportunities during the regular meetings they hold with you and ensure you are up to date with the range of opportunities we offer.

We also recognise the advantages of learning from the ideas, innovation and changes that occur in the wider market place and are leading supporters of the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII), providing subsidised membership in your first year. Ongoing support programmes also include:-
